An IoT Blockchain to Improve the Traceability on Agri-Food Applications

The traceability of any product and food is vital within the supply chain of various food organizations, countries, and society in general since it allows us to know details of the logistics of food products at all times and, therefore, guarantees their food security by participating various entities including producers, consumers, intermediaries, regulators, etc. It becomes complicated to track these agricultural products, particularly in environments where small computing elements are needed, such as harvesting fruits and vegetables. This work proposes a traceability scheme based on Blockchain that can be interoperable with various manufacturers and on different computing architectures. The results demonstrate that the traceability of agri-food systems can be carried out in a good way at an affordable cost.
