Conclusion

This book was born out of my long enthusiasm for and commitment to language anxiety research, which started with my MA thesis at the turn of the millennium. This coincided with other scholars’ interests, and by about now, both my work and, generally, research on anxiety in applied linguistics has come of age. This is not to say, however, that everything has been said about it; on the contrary, the topic is still relevant, and there are many other paths for researchers to take when investigating foreign language anxiety. This is also underpinned by numerous recent papers, books, and even special issues such as that of the Annual Review of Applied Linguistics published in March 2023.
