The Input, Process, and Output Anxiety Scales: An Approximate Replication Study

This chapter focuses on gathering and analyzing evidence for the psychometric soundness of the Hungarian Input, Process, and Output Anxiety Scales (H-IPOAS) by conducting an approximate replication of Onwuegbuzie et al. in Language Learning, 50(1):87–117, 2000. Here, as in the initial study, the focus was on “the extent to which these scales adequately measure and reflect the three-stage conceptualization” (p. 91) of language anxiety. The chapter describes the notion of replication studies and the rationale for opting for this method of investigation. Then, a brief summary of the initial study the replication is based on and the description of the methods of the current study are provided. Subsequently, in the methods and the results sections, the steps and findings of the present study are compared and contrasted with those of the initial study.
