Towards Standardization of Interaction Design: Cognitive Developmental Robotics Revisited

This chapter examines the contemporary significance of the fundamental concepts of cognitive developmental robotics (CDR): embodiment and social interaction. Depending on the developmental process of self, we delve into the various forms of interaction that blur the boundary between embodiment and social interaction. They includes from a simple interaction consisting of an agent and an environment to a complex one involving heterogeneous agents (humans, avatars, and robots) crossing different environments (physical and cyber spaces). Examples of interaction mechanisms are introduced and future issues are given towards standardization of interaction design.
