On Progress in Philosophy

In his 2019 book, On Evidence in Philosophy, William Lycan engages in reflection on the methods of philosophy and its limits. The book is primarily a work of meta-philosophy, within which he sketches an epistemology of philosophy. His topic is our ultimate sources of justified philosophical belief—what philosophers may use as evidence and what they may legitimately consider to be evident. Discussion of dualism and free will is woven throughout to illustrate shortcomings in philosophical methodology and the power of a particular version of Moorean argumentation that Lycan champions throughout the book.
