Introduction to William Lycan on Mind, Meaning, and Method

William G. Lycan (b. 1945) is an internationally renowned American philosopher who has held positions at various universities, primarily in the United States, but also in Australia and New Zealand, and who currently teaches at the University of Connecticut. Dating back to the late 1960s, Lycan’s philosophical work has been both extensive and influential, especially in the areas of philosophy of mind, epistemology, philosophy of language, philosophy of linguistics, metaphysics, and, more recently, metaphilosophy. Before turning to Lycan’s work, we will briefly review his academic biography.
