Gradual Deformity Correction in Children and Adolescents
摘要
Gradual correction of deformities is the preferred option in many deformities especially when significant shortening of the affected limb is present. It might be performed using a variety of external fixation devices or an internal lengthening nailing. Gradual deformity is safer than acute correction with a substantially lower complication rate. It is also a more-forgiving method because in most cases the surgeon can perform “fine tuning” of the deformity during the process of correction, thereby, achieving the best possible result. While circular external fixation systems are still the most useful devices, when appropriate, internal lengthening is more comfortable for patients and for many (especially femoral deformities) has become the treatment of choice.
