Obsessive Compulsive Disorder and Hoarding Disorder
摘要
Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD) is defined by the experience of obsessions and/or compulsions which lead to clinically significant impairment in daily function. Obsessions are distressing cognitive intrusions while compulsions are repetitive behaviors performed in response to these obsessions or in service of a rigid system of rules. These experiences are often ego-dystonic, that is, in conflict with an individual’s values and self-image. OCD is not commonly encountered as a new onset diagnosis in older adults. As a chronic condition, OCD can be severely impairing across the age spectrum and requires a multimodal approach to treatment which includes pharmacological therapy and structured psychotherapy. OCD is also encountered alongside hoarding, either as a behavioral manifestation of OCD or a separate diagnosis. Treatment of hoarding disorder relies on psychotherapy as no medications have been shown to be effective thus far.
