Panic Disorder
摘要
Panic disorder is expressed as recurrent and abrupt onset episodes of fear and intense physical sensations. It is a condition less commonly encountered in older adults, but it is disabling when it occurs. When present, it is more often a continuation of earlier onset panic disorder than a new development. Assessment should therefore include a thorough psychiatric review and additionally a survey of medical and neurological conditions. Treatment strategies are often derived from our understanding of this diagnosis in younger adults, as there have been few prospective trials comparing treatments in older adults. Both cognitive behavioral therapy and pharmacotherapy have a role in the treatment of panic disorder. Ultimately, weighing risks and benefits and accounting for patient preference are helpful to select the appropriate treatment strategy.
