Towards Designing Interval Type-3 Fuzzy PID Controllers

In this paper we are presenting an initial proposal for extending proportional integral derivative (PID) control to the realm of type-3 fuzzy logic. The original idea of fuzzy PID control was proposed to provide more flexibility to PID control by allowing handling the nonlinearity of real systems. Later type-2 was incorporated to allow handling uncertainty in control due to noise. In this case, we propose the utilization of type-3 fuzzy logic to enhance the abilities of the controller in handling higher degrees of uncertainty in the control process. The architecture of interval type-3 fuzzy PID control is presented and illustrative cases are used to show the potential applicability of the proposal.
