Step-by-Step Guide for Penile Doppler Ultrasound Examinations: Practical Tips

The vascular evaluation of the erectile function through penile Doppler ultrasound is useful in the therapeutic decision-making process for patients with erectile dysfunction. Unfortunately, there is no standard procedure for PDU, which ultimately leads to unreliable results. The aim of this chapter is to promote guidance in a step-by-step fashion to aid in promoting standardization in the conduction of PDU. The three most important principles for this purpose are (1) to utilize redosing strategies during erection induction, (2) to perform a rigidity-based evaluation of hemodynamic parameters, and (3) to apply an effective detumescence protocol using reversal agents.
