Introduction

The introduction of the book highlights the pivotal role transparency has played in shaping the trajectory of science over recent centuries, leading to unforeseen advancements for humanity. Transparency in scientific endeavours hinges upon the clear dissemination of research results, alongside verifiable methodologies and transparent allocation of research funds. Over time, academia has cultivated a culture of transparency, gradually translating these principles into legislative frameworks. However, the public sector typically operates with less transparency, though it has made strides in adopting commendable practices. To address this disparity, we advocate for a proactive approach, advocating for legislative reforms mandating public institutions to adopt transparent data-sharing practices akin to those embraced in scientific research. Moreover, we recognize civil society institutions as drivers of exemplary practices, which could serve as models for legislative solutions. While our focus lies on transparency within the public sector, the insights gleaned from our examination are applicable to the business realm. Furthermore, we briefly delve into the realm of privacy, suggesting that the state should transparently communicate to citizens about the collection and usage of their data by both governmental and private entities.
