Becoming an agency astronaut involves a rigorous multi-year training process encompassing a range of skills and competencies necessary to operate in space safely and effectively, but this will need to change a little when preparing the new crop of commercial astronauts, at least as far as orbital and beyond Earth orbit missions are concerned. While specific training programs may vary among different commercial spaceflight companies, there will most likely be a fair degree of commonality in the general areas of training that aspiring commercial astronauts will undergo. What follows is an insight into mission training requirements, which will include myriad training elements ranging from basic systems, spacewalk preparation, simulator training, emergency procedures and survival training.
