The Era of Gas Lighting
摘要
Gas illumination is a significant event in the history of human civilization. Prior to the coal gas illumination, the world had lighted up by candles and oil lamps made from animal fat, whale oil and vegetable oil. Although Murdock developed a process to make coal gas and to use the coal gas for illumination for his house at Redruth and textile factories it is Winsor who deployed the coal gas illumination for the benefits of the public lives by lighting up streets, hotels, and theaters that made the fast growing cities and towns, first in Britain and then in Europe, America, and the rest of the world, safer, colorful, and more productive.
