摘要
In this chapter, we present foundational information to support the rest of this book. We present the basics of computer architecture, system-on-chip design, CPU pipelining, and virtual memory, taking a high-level approach that is agnostic to any particular architecture. We also introduce the notion of protection rings as a very early mechanism for enhancing the reliability and security of modern computers.
