Automotive Industry Perspectives of Green Skills in the Skill Dimension Towards Sustainability

摘要

The problem of climate change requires a transformation of global practice for sustainable development. The automotive industry has been identified as one of the manufacturing sectors that is contributing to these problems. The transition from the conventional automotive industry to the green industry aims to reduce the greenhouse effect. The green industry opens an opportunity for green jobs that require someone with green skills covering the knowledge, skills, and attitudes related to green skills. Therefore, the purpose of this case study was to explore green skills elements from the automotive perspective in skill dimension. The semi-structured interview was conducted, and the protocol interview was validated by peer review. Nine experts were selected, and selection is based on the background qualifications, job position, work experience and industry knowledge. The data were transcribed and analyzed with thematic analysis. A total of six elements of green skills were identified in the interview session, namely design skills, managerial skills, energy management skills, communication skills, adaptability skills, and renewable energy skills. This insight is beneficial for the development of a green skills competency framework for the automotive industry.
