Bibliometrics Analysis on Research Related to Social Media Addiction During the Pandemic Covid-19

Social media are a current way of life regardless of age and gender. It also gives interesting impact to the users negatively or positively. On the positive usage, social media enables users to access information, to solve problems and other purposes. During the beginning of Covid-19 in March 2020, the national lock-down disabled people from leaving their home as this is the method to curb the disease. Since then, no external outdoor activity was allowed, social media were the way for people to interact with the outside world. Due to the dependency on social media during the pandemic from 2020 to early 2022, the issue of social media addiction has been highlighted. Thus, this paper reviewed articles from Google Scholars to find out about social media addiction among adults by using the manual and bibliometrics analysis methods. This paper also aims to determine significant themes in these articles. A total of 995 published articles between 2020 and 2022 in Google Scholar was reviewed. The finding shows that between 2020 and 2022, the research on social media addiction focused on media psychology, addictive social medium, domain, compulsive social medium, academic performance, addictive behaviour, communication overload, gender, game addiction and many others.
