Systematic Review of Road Traffic Regulation Compliance

The escalating global shift towards a mobile lifestyle has led to a rise in human errors while managing road risks, resulting in accidents, causing property damage, injuries, and loss of life with governments worldwide are enforcing stricter rules for road users to mitigate these issues. This paper systematically compiles and analyzes research publications from reputable journals, investigating factors influencing road traffic accidents, traffic regulations, and human behavior. The review identifies 55 relevant publications, and reveals key conforming pattern. The review found that risk-taking behavior, driver age, and distractions emerge as major causes of accidents. Moreover, regulations play a crucial role in accident aversion, driven by deterrence theory and perception of being caught theory. More importantly, understanding human behavior is pivotal for promoting road safety. Most research found that behavioral theories have the tendency to improve road safety and reducing risk of traffic incidents via voluntary regulation adherence and heightened awareness. The study’s outcomes offer valuable insights for policymakers and stakeholders to propose targeted improvement strategies and recommendations to tackle the root causes of road traffic incidents.
