The Environment

This introductory chapter explains what it means to provide IT services instead of selling products, how today’s IT including cloud and container works in principle, and why supply chain complexity is not a side issue. It is briefly described how modern IT services are deployed and maintained, how the user organization comes into play and how IT security is related to IT service management. The life cycle of the business relationship between the user organization and its suppliers, and not just that of the IT service, is the basis for the consideration of IT service security in the remainder of this book.
