Unaccompanied Migrant Minors in Italy: Numbers and the Transition to Adulthood

Bichi presents an overview of the phenomenon of UAMs in Italy, observing some peculiar conditions; an overview of the phenomenon of UAMs in Italy offer the possibility to observe some peculiar conditions; first of all, the presence of a very high number of Unaccompanied migrant Minors that continuously call upon the system; second, a very good national legislation that outlines a system that must, however, be translated into practice in very different territorial contexts; last but not least, the existence of social good practices in the territories that make it possible to design transferable "lessons learned" for the reception and integration of UAMs that can also be transferred to a European level in their methodological guidelines. There is therefore a need for ever more careful monitoring of the characteristics that distinguish these minors; regarding their encounter with the new hosting context, this should always relate to the structural peculiarities and cultural specifics from which these young people have come.
