The Game Plan: How to Design Curricular Games Within Limits
摘要
This chapter explores how constraints inspired creativity in the evolution of the design of game-based classes. It starts with an example of students exploring the ideal number of constraints in inspiring creativity in terms of game design. It then explores the nature of games and how constraints in the form of rules play a role. The author then details how her own experience designing game-based courses has benefited from the various constraints that have led to repurposing, troubleshooting, and workarounds. The chapter concludes by exploring how to overcome presumed constraints in traditional academic universities in order to offer more equitable educational experiences.
