Use of Health Care Simulation Technologies to Support Pedagogy and Content Knowledge in Foundational STEM Education
摘要
This chapter presents a general framework for the creative repurposing of simulation tool kits and materials that were originally developed for use in health care education to prepare medical doctors and nurses. The discussion begins with an explanation of the uses for simulation in health care education, and then transitions to a description of the applicability of these same technologies to teaching mathematics and science content knowledge to students in primary and secondary schools. In these sections describing the repurposing of medical simulation technologies, you will find a system of teaching that employs experiential learning and constructive framings. During the discussion, we will describe an overarching approach along with illustrative examples for employing medical simulation technologies to support the teaching and learning of foundational K-12 science and mathematics topics.
