Surgical Interventions for Urinary Stone Disease Including SWL and Indications for Active Stone Removal
摘要
This chapter aims to elucidate the role of different active treatment modalities of urinary stone patients. Moreover it points out if active stone removal is indicated or not. There is a large body of evidence recommending different types of interventions like percutaneous nephrolithotomy (PNL), ureterorenoscopy (URS) including retrograde intrarenal surgery (RIRS), and shock wave lithotripsy (SWL) for urolithiasis patients depending on stone size and location and whether active stone removal is indicated or not. The level of evidence regarding randomized controlled trials (RCTs) for comparison between the different interventional therapies is moderate. It is highly recommended to follow the European Association of Urology Urolithiasis Guidelines Panel algorithms to choose the kind of intervention and decide if active stone removal is necessary.
