Personality and Well-Being

  • Janek Musek

摘要

Well-being is one of the most desirable things in our life. This chapter addresses the question of how well-being relates to personality. The role of personality in our well-being is extremely large. Well-being is an integral part of many personality dimensions, including emotional stability, extraversion, conscientiousness, openness, and, of course, the general personality factor. Thus, personality is intimately related to human emotionality and affect, and, consequently, to the happiness, well-being, satisfaction with life and quality of life, coping with stress, and finally, to mental health and psychopathology. This chapter also describes in more detail the different factors and processes that connect personality to the well-being and analyzes the connections between the structural dimensions of both well-being and personality. The role of personality in domains, which endanger our well-being (stress, burnout, psychological disorders), is especially discussed in this chapter.
