Metabolic Enzyme Induction for Health Benefits

In enzymatic reactions, xenobiotics are initially activated by activation enzymes. The generated reactive metabolites then undergo detoxification enzyme–catalyzed reactions, before they are ready for excretion from the body. Hence, induction or inhibition of metabolic enzymes has a significant impact on the extent of toxicity that reactive intermediates generate during xenobiotics metabolism.
