Inducibility of Metabolizing Enzymes

An important toxicologically relevant feature associated with foreign compound metabolism is the inducibility of metabolizing enzymes. Some xenobiotics exhibit intrinsic toxicity, while some others are metabolically activated to potential toxicants by activation enzymes. The generated toxic metabolites then undergo detoxification enzyme–catalyzed reactions before they are ready for excretion.
