The Journey towards Maturity

There is much discussion in professional coaching circles about coach development. The ICF have their own terms for the journey a coach takes in their development from student to Associate Certified Coach (ACC) to Professional Certified Coach (PCC) and finally to Master Certified Coach (MCC). In this book we have focused our thinking around the term ‘maturity’ as an alternative way of thinking about coach development, recognising that many high performing coaches may not yet be an MCC. In this chapter we introduce the idea of maturity. We suggest that coach development is a continual process, not a destination, and that even for the MCC, development continues. In short, we are all on a developmental journey.
