Private Television and the Reproduction of Conspiracy Theories: The Greek Case

  • Thomas Lazaridis

摘要

In this chapter we discuss the connection between Greek private television and conspiracy theories and how this relation is reflected in the social and political field. In order to examine the social demands and the political opportunities which conspiracy theories and personalities exploit, we will focus on two case studies: the political party LAOS and the movement of the Hellenic Assembly (Ellinon Syneleysis), both of which are on the right of the political spectrum, take advantage of their television exposure. Further, this research places a particular emphasis on how previously unknown personalities deriving from the far right and the conspiracy fields found themselves in the political spotlight and at the core of the class and ideological hegemony of neoliberalism.
