The History of the Discourse Concept

This chapter provides a historical overview of the career of the discourse concept up until the debates surrounding structuralism and post-structuralism in 1960s France. It is in this context that Foucault develops his analytics of power/knowledge by using the concept of discourse. Before dwelling deeper into Foucaultian work, the chapter then explores the basic features of the current field of discourse studies.
