Hubris
摘要
‘Hubris’ is an original instrumental composition by Ioannis Tsioulakis, written and publicly performed in Cork, Ireland in 2013 (but never before recorded). It was written for an ensemble of Greek migrant musicians, scattered across Ireland, England, and Germany. The ensemble bears the name Pro/Schema, a wordplay in Greek: ‘proschema’ means ‘excuse’, ‘pretext’, as the ensemble was a mere excuse for long-time friends to collaborate on stage together. ‘Schema’ means ‘shape’ but also ‘ensemble’. With the prefix ‘pro’ (pre-, what comes before), pro-schema is a pre-ensemble, an assemblage not fully formed, a promise eternally unfulfilled.
