Hey! Give Me Back My Saviour Complex

This farcical play is an anthropological reflection on the complexities of being a white British researcher working in a postcolonial setting. It uses verbatim material from ethnographic interviews to explore how white male saviour complexes can develop ‘in the field’. The script was shared with the real-life protagonist (who I have called Maya) before staged. Maya read the script and gave her consent to share this story for performance and publication.
