Voices of the Global Majority

  • Kevan Manwaring

摘要

We look at new voices since the millennium, in particular ones that destabilise existing power structures, and offer a spectrum of diverse perspectives from across the globe. Also, this chapter considers an essential area that all writers of conscience must engage with: the ethics of representation. Every writer needs to consider their position regarding ‘cultural appropriation’. What could be called ‘The Lionel Shriver position’ will be considered alongside more conscionable approaches. With nods to Spivak and Said we’ll consider the importance empowering marginalised voices, representing indigenous rights, and post-colonial considerations—perspectives that have problematized the Anthropocene. How can approaches that eschew the heteronormative, neuronormal, and the specter of ‘white privilege’ help to defamiliarize nature writing?
