摘要

Much has been written about the history of the English education system. Most of this has focused on changing legislation, social policy and its development into the modern public system that exists today. Yet, the one hundred autobiographers considered here were not concerned with how the education system had developed or continued to develop throughout the twentieth century. Instead, their recollections of school, like Nancy Dobrin’s that begins this chapter, detailed the subjects they enjoyed or hated, the surroundings they were taught in and the overall enjoyment of their school experience.
