摘要

Chronic pelvic pain, sexual pain, and female sexual dysfunction are medical conditions often coexisting and interrelated that have a significant impact on the patient’s quality of life. The patients suffering from them frequently experience many sexual difficulties such as reduced desire, arousal problems, or altered orgasm. These conditions should be treated with a multidimensional approach based on the biopsychosocial model. For a correct diagnosis, and to establish a good treatment plan, all the factors involved should be correctly assessed: such as physical, biological, and psychological factors. The therapeutic plan will include the treatment of all the factors found to be the cause of pain. In the treatment approach, the following can be performed: mental health interventions (psychotherapy), pelvic floor physiotherapy, drug treatment (hormonal treatment, pain medication), and, sometimes, anesthetic blockades or surgical interventions.
