STI and Sexuality
摘要
Sexually transmitted infections (STI) have a multifactorial impact on the sexual health of people who are infected and those who are at high risk of acquiring them. The impact on reproductive health, the possibility of sequelae, stigmatization, acceptance of body image, substance abuse, and barriers to accessing appropriate health care are some of the factors that may determine this impact. In particular, chronic viral STI, those for which there is no curative treatment, may have a more intense impact on the sexuality of patients and their partners. Comprehensive sexual health care for patients should include specific interventions to assess and improve sexuality from a biopsychosocial and inclusive point of view, promoting safe and pleasurable sexuality, considering the diversity of sexual identities, orientations, and behaviors of the people who come to the consultation, without stigmatizing or prejudging.
