Sexual Health in Individuals with Disabilities
摘要
Disability can have diverse impacts on individuals’ sexual lives, affecting aspects such as desire, sexual function, and satisfaction. With the International Classification of Functioning, Disability and Health (ICF), there is a valuable conceptual framework for comprehending how disability can influence a person’s sexuality, considering physical, psychological, and social factors. Recognizing the barriers and facilitators that impact the sexual health of individuals with disabilities fosters a holistic perspective of their sexual well-being. A multidisciplinary approach is essential to address the unique sexual education and information needs of people with disabilities, thereby overcoming barriers to accessing sexual health services. Emphasizing the equal rights of individuals with disabilities to experience intimacy, sexual expression, and pleasure is vital in challenging discrimination and destigmatizing their sexuality. Promoting a positive sexuality perspective further contributes to fostering a society that values and respects the sexual rights and desires of all individuals, regardless of disability status.
