Sexual well-being is crucial for patients with cardiac disease, yet sexual counseling is often neglected in cardiology clinics despite guideline recommendations. This article emphasizes the significance of sexual counseling and its integration into routine care for patients with cardiovascular disease. It discusses the role of cardiologists in providing sexual counseling, the impact of cardiovascular medications on sexual function, cardiovascular responses during sexual activity, and offers recommendations for sexual activity in different cardiac conditions. The article highlights the need for training healthcare professionals in sexual assessment, communication, and counseling. It provides general recommendations for cardiovascular patients, including guidelines for resuming sexual activity after myocardial infarction, cardiac surgery, heart failure, and heart transplantation. The need for research in this topic is also discussed. By recognizing the importance of sexual well-being and providing appropriate counseling, healthcare professionals can enhance patient care and improve outcomes for individuals with cardiac conditions.
