摘要

The microorganism that adapts and grows to extreme/harsh environments is known as extremophiles. The diversity of extremophiles is classified with different environmental conditions where it grows acidophile (pH 9), psychrophile (0–20 °C), thermophile (45–80 °C), hyperthermophile (>80 °C), halophile (2.5–5.2 M salt concentration), xerophile (reduced water activity), and barophile (high pressure > 38–50 MPa). The secondary metabolites produced by extremophiles are highly stable in different conditions and have high values. This chapter focuses on the novel and potential secondary metabolites produced by extremophiles in high demand for agriculture, pharmaceutical, and food sectors to achieve sustainable development.
