Genomic Instability

  • Priscila Farias Tempaku

摘要

Maintenance of genome stability is vital for human health, and it is of particular importance in ageing. Genome stability is regulated by multiple DNA repair pathways that work simultaneously to ensure the integrity of DNA. This includes an error-free replication of genetic material and the repair of replication mistakes or damaged DNA/RNA. Conversely, genomic instability due to defects in DNA repair can have profound implications in the development of premature ageing, various cancer predispositions and hereditary diseases. In this chapter, the main causes and consequences of genomic instability are reviewed as well as its association with ageing and age-related conditions.
