摘要

This book chapter explores the impact of playful pedagogy on students’ learning experiences beyond the classroom. Drawing from the authors’ experiences as counseling instructors in higher education and K-12 instructional coaches, the chapter argues that incorporating playfulness, warmth, and intriguing lesson design can ignite passion and enhance knowledge on students’ educational journeys. The authors present examples of playful pedagogical activities, such as role-playing exercises and cultural showcases, that promote engagement, equality, and personal development. They emphasize the importance of pre-game preparation and post-game reflection to maximize the effectiveness of play. Furthermore, the chapter highlights the role of humor in pedagogy, discussing its ability to build rapport, engage students, and humanize instructors. By infusing humor into instruction, educators can create inviting learning environments and help students overcome fears associated with their chosen fields. The authors provide strategies for incorporating humor, including the use of anecdotes, memes, and light-hearted check-ins. They also outline effective techniques for integrating humor into lectures and assignments. Overall, this chapter advocates for an informed and playful pedagogy that fosters student transformation and enhances their educational experiences.
