Presidents and Policymaking
摘要
In discussing the presidential elections in Nigeria, an important area of attention is the policy choices and development projects initiated by the presidents. This should have influenced voters’ choices and preferences. In other democracies, especially advanced ones, the electorate is influenced by the policies and programmes as well as ideologies of parties and politicians and this shapes voting behaviour. In Nigeria, parties lack ideology and civilians or politicians keep convincing Nigerians that the economic setback the country has experienced was a result of the prolonged and aggravated military rule in the country.
