Spatial Analysis of Noise Contour Maps Based on Traffic Speed Using Predictor-LimA Software

This research examines the correlations and effects of street networks on city calmness. The scope of this work covers traffic speed as one of the traffic parameters. The linkage of noise combined with traffic parameters in modern cities was explored in the relevant literature. The Aviation Design Environmental Tool (AEDT) is for airport noise mapping and simulation. Through analyzing the airport as a source of noise, this tool facilitates the selection of a case study. Predictor-LimA software was used in the research case study in Heliopolis, Cairo to create a model that included eight receiver locations. These receivers have values at six building heights: 1.5, 4, 8, 12, 15, and 18 m. The three scenarios investigated were 100, 70, and 50 kms per hour traffic speeds. Our analysis revealed a significant correlation between noise and traffic speed through the Pearson correlation coefficient. Our results also indicated that noise prediction should be considered as part of the design process for landscape designers and planners. The study ends with lessons on various scales, from the regional to design scale and community awareness. As such, we suggest a toolkit to explain the use of specific techniques to reduce speed. This toolkit includes an urban planning scale that provides for governmental decisions during the design process. Our concluding remarks confirmed the essential role of designers and community members in designing based on the soundscape for creating livable public spaces.
