摘要

My own interest in this clinical entity began during the 5 years that I worked in the Department of Anesthesia at the University of Washington and Harborview Medical Center in Seattle that were chaired by John Bonica, MD. I soon found out that this would be an exercise of immersion as already mentioned above. John Bonica had literally taken care of thousands of patients who had developed RSD after their various injuries during the recent War. Use of sympathetic blocks was ubiquitous and for a shorter or longer duration would provide considerable pain relief for most cases. My friends and colleagues, many expatriates from British Commonwealth countries, also working in the same department could not but help share the same excitement and interest in this weird condition.
