摘要
Chapter 1 is a teaser on water that intends to motivate the reader to concern oneself with this precious element and hydraulics particularly. Water’s impact on the development of civilization, the discovery of its chemical components, its occurrence on our planet as well as its origin are discussed. Yet another item is water’s life enabling quality in the context of its physical properties. Water as the resource for various industrial processes brackets its importance to us. Therefore, water has played an important role on human life ever since and thus spiritual dedication at least in the major religious groups.
