Possibilities of Development and Application of Powerful Geography Approach in Geographical Education in Bosnia and Herzegovina
摘要
This chapter presents the problems faced by geographical education in the process of educational reform in Bosnia & Herzegovina (B&H). We considered which powerful geographical knowledge and skills would enable students to be more easily involved in the work process and their active participation in society. Research on the possibilities of development and implementation of Powerful Geography approach in geographical education in B&H began with an examination of high school students career aspirations. After that, the career field, which the students are most interested in, was chosen, and based on these results, an interview with a geographer who applies geographical knowledge in a non-geographical field (i.e., in Forestry) was conducted. Based on the interview, preparation for a geography high school lesson related to implementation of GIS in the field of Forestry was made. Analysis of the possibility of development and implementation of Powerful Geography approach in geography curriculum for high schools-gymnasiums in the Republic of Srpska showed that it is possible to apply given preparation for the lesson in accordance with Powerful Geography approach. Implementation of Powerful Geography approach would lead to improvement of geography curriculum, and it would contribute to understanding of the importance and usefulness of geographical knowledge and skills.
