Once Upon a Time on the Internet: Digital Nostalgia for the Music Album

  • Rieke Jordan

摘要

Jordan offers an insight into the nostalgic appearances of music albums and their recalcitrance in digital landscapes. Discussing the impact such albums seek to have in a more and more digitized consumer market, Jordan argues for the enjoyment of objects and their appeal to a certain mode retro. By this, Jordan conceptualizes a digital nostalgia in which the early internet is recirculated and perpetuated; the internet seduces users with an aesthetization of the obsolescence and transience of objects. Particularly in music formats, such a process is visible and particularly tempting in mapping out temporal and spatial unspecificities of online and offline spheres.
