During ancient times and in every part of the globe, mythology was an important human characteristic, creating beliefs, religions, and ultimately culture. In ancient Japan, the Sun god was female, in contrast to most cultures in which the main god had to be male. The goddess Amaterasu was thus the supreme ruler of the world.
