Analysis and Prediction of CO2 Emissions, Energy Use, and Economic Growth Trilemma in India

India stands at a unique juncture in its history. India has been the fastest growing economy in the world in recent times. With a large population of working-class people, it is planning to take the next big leap and become the next economic superpower. However, this comes with a caveat. As all the major economies of the world are transitioning to more sustainable energy sources, we need to examine whether the Indian economy can attain its growth objectives as its peers did earlier. We intend to examine the energy use, CO2 emissions, and economic growth in India and compare it with China. The goal is to examine whether, if India were to honor its commitments made in the Climate Accord, it will be possible to match the economic growth and miracle of China. To examine this, we analyze the CO2 emissions, energy use, and economic growth of India and China and try to find correlation between these three metrics. We found that energy use and CO2 emissions had a significant effect on the growth of both the countries. Furthermore, the tests revealed that China’s economy will be bigger when compared to India for the next few decades if the current trend continues.
