Optimizing Urban Planning to Alleviate Noise Pollution in Different Types of Intersections: A Case Study in Cluj-Napoca

This study investigates the impact of noise pollution in various types of intersections in heavily trafficked areas in Cluj-Napoca. Noise pollution is a significant environmental concern that affects the well-being of residents and can lead to various health issues. The objective of this research is to analyze and compare traffic generated noise levels in different types of intersections, including signalized, roundabouts, and uncontrolled intersections. Measurements were taken at multiple locations during peak traffic hours using full spectrum sound level meters. The results indicate variations in noise levels among the different intersection types, highlighting the importance of considering noise mitigation strategies in urban planning and traffic management. The conclusions of this study offer valuable insights into the issue of the variation of noise pollution levels throughout the sound spectrum correlated with different types of road intersections, specifically in the context of a developing city like Cluj-Napoca. The study serves as a basis for implementing effective traffic noise reduction measures, which can contribute to creating a more livable and sustainable environment for the residents of Cluj-Napoca. The findings are essential for urban planners and policymakers in their efforts to improve the overall quality of life by addressing the issue of traffic generated noise pollution in intersections.
