Testing the Quality of Filtered Drinking Water and Developing Technical Solutions to Improve It

The directions of the conducted research aimed at the testing with the help of atomic force microscopy of the residual micro-nano deposits in drinking water filtered with five usual filter cartridges. As a result of the identified deposits, it was possible to characterize them from a geometrical and mechanical-physical perspective, directly reflecting the degree of water filtration. The values obtained from the microscopic analyses were used in an application developed in MATLAB, through mathematical statistics techniques based on correlations and regressions, to generate a predictive model related to the filtering capacity of the existing tested cartridges. These interpretations were the basis of the development of a prototype filtration system composed of cartridges with improved filtration capacities in terms of efficiency, sustainability, and eco-innovation, in relation to the limitations imposed by the usual filtration systems tested.
